In Designing Paradise, we’re transported to Montoya-designed residences that occupy ravishing sites in Punta Mita in Mexico, Casa de Campo in the Dominican Republic, Miami Beach, Fisher Island, and other idyllic oceanfront locales. As much as these homes are escapist fantasias, they are also inextricably rooted to their geographic locations and their regional cultures. During their coursework new technologies are tested and the equipment and facilities help with the investigation of new ideas. Experiments investigate the impacts of these applications on both the experience of human users of architecture and energy consumption. Students who possess baccalaureate degrees in any discipline can enter the MID three-year track, while students who possess baccalaureate degrees in interior architecture, interior design, environmental arts or architecture are eligible to enter the MID with advanced standing. Transdisciplinary project-based studios allow students to work across practice, from the built, to the virtual, to the augmented.
Students can continue working within their current fields or they can pursue opportunities with local design firms. Interior Design Master Class, edited by Carl Dellatore, is a collection of 100 essays written by the principals of 100 of the best interior design firms in America today — 100 variegated perspectives, each creating a discourse on one subject within the design discipline.
